DISA Vascular Ltd. started in Cape Town, South Africa in 1999. DISA Vascular is headquartered a few hundred meters from Groote Schuur Hospital or as
translated from its Dutch origin “Big Ranch”. The hospital was started by Dutch missionaries in the 17th century and is world famous due to
the first successful heart transplant which was completed here by Dr. Christian Barnard on December 12, 1967. The heart recipient was Louis Washkansky.
The origins of the Disa name come from a species of orchid native to South Africa, known as the “Pride of Table Mountain”. DISA Vascular is known for the development of the most successful Cobalt Chrome coronary stent and for continuing innovation in coronary catheters used during interventions of coronary arteries.
